Ronaldo on brink of Man Utd deal
Cristiano Ronaldo
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed Cristiano Ronaldo has agreed terms on a new contract.

Ronaldo, 20, has been linked with a move to Real Madrid but Ferguson says he is staying at Old Trafford.

"Chief executive David Gill will sign the agreement with Cristiano which will extend his deal until 2010," Ferguson told the Correio da Manha newspaper.

"The numbers have been agreed for a while, we just need his signature."

He added: "Cristiano will sign the new deal. He is a fantastic player - the future of Manchester United with Wayne Rooney, Darren Fletcher and John O'Shea.

"I do not know if he will stay as many years as Ryan Giggs, but I know he will give us a lot of joy."

Ronal told Portuguese newspaper O Jogo: "We have spoken about the important questions and I believe that I will sign with Manchester United, but still I have not signed the contract to date.

"The negotiations are going well. My agent Jorge Mendes is responsible for this and I expect a happy solution.

"I am happy to sign, but I have two more years on my contract. The proposition is for another three years.

"I am settled at Manchester United, but if the club decides my exit, there is nothing I can do. It is the decision of the coach, but I am happy at United because this is the club where I want to follow.

"It is difficult to talk of a contract for the whole of your career like Carlos Queiroz said.

"No one knows the future, but I intend to fulfil my contract. I reiterate that I am calm about my future."

Real and Spanish rivals Barcelona had reportedly both been preparing £20m bids for the Portuguese international, who signed for United for £12m in August 2003.

Ronaldo played 40 times for the Premiership team last season, scoring nine goals in the process.
