Cumin is a flowering plant in the family Apiaceae, native to the Irano-Turanian Region.The name cumin comes from the Arabic Kamūn. It is said that the word comes from the Persian city of Kerman, which in ancient times was a large center of cumin production.
The cumin plant grows to 30–50cm tall and is harvested by hand.
Its seeds which are dried are used in the cuisines of many cultures in both whole and ground form.
Likely originating in Central Asia, Southwestern Asia, or the Eastern Mediterranean, cumin has been used as a spice for thousands of years.
Ιn Greek recipes cumin is used in recipes with meat and especially with minced meat. However it goes well with legume recipes but also with grilled fish.
