I designed and cut some of these before, but I've just designed and printed a carrier for
an integrated LED module (came slap band LED as the show uses).

They're laser engraved, then cut out. Acrylic can be used as a light pipe, basically if you butt a light source against an edge, it will diffuse light through the piece (with a diminishing falloff over area, of course). It works even better on a boundary edge, but these need a notch to fit the LED module in.
Yeah, we actually have a Muse 3D here, just never gotten the light pipe effect to work out nearly so nicely!
