Did you know that the world was first introduced to the lovable Disney character, Goofy, in May 1932?

This silly Disney character made his film debut in the animated short, “Mickey’s Revue,” in which he played an audience member with a distinguished laugh. He later appeared in newspaper comic strips under the name “Dippy Dawg.” His name officially became “Goofy” in 1939, with the release of the film, “Goofy & Wilbur.”

Since the opening of our first park, Disneyland park in 1955, Goofy has welcomed millions of guests in a myriad of ways.

For example, Walt Disney World Resort guests can currently enjoy Goofy-themed attractions Barnstormer Starring the Great Goofini at Magic Kingdom Park and Goofy’s Sky School at Disney California Adventure park. Families can enjoy a meet-and-greet with him, dine at Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel, make a sweet treat at Goofy’s Candy Company at Downtown Disney, or get a photo taken with Santa Goofy during the holidays!

  • Several years ago in Disney’s California Adventure, I was pushing my Mum along in her wheelchair when Goofy and his companion drove alongside us in a cart. Goofy motioned to me that we should race and so I started running with the wheelchair! Goofy’s cart raced alongside us towards the Tower of Terror where Sully from Monsters Inc pretended to drop a flag as we crossed the ‘finishing line’. My mother was giggling like a schoolgirl all the way and she loves remembering the day that she raced with Goofy!

    • Too funny!

  • My favorite memory of Goofy isn’t actually Goofy. When I was little, my grandfather used to imitate Goofy all the time. That’s my favorite Goofy memory!

    • That’s a great memory to have.

  • Goofy’s “How To” cartoons are some of the best, most entertaining, animation pieces in all of Disney!! Happy Birthday Goofy!!

  • When I danced with Goofy at my reception at the Boardwalk Resort in 2005! I was called out in the hallway and I thought somethin was wrong. So I looked past the door and I ran to Goofy!! He was dressed in a tux! I had goofy slippers on under my dress. Then I walked in with him and I danced with him and we took tons of pictures!!! He is my favorite character! I have my picture taken with at every park each time I go to WDW!!!

  • I remember going to Mickey’s Toontown fair at Walt Disney World a few year back. When I was at the hall of fame. I got to meet Goofy and he gave a big hug! It was a wonderful experience!

  • Hey there!

So Goofy is my favorite character and I have on my calendar that his birthday is MAY 25th. All of my other Disney calendars also come with little fun facts for the days and they say that it is MAY 25th as well. Also, if Goofy made his appearance in Mickey’s Revue then that opened on MAY 25th. So…. just saying.

  • My family always take a photo with Goofy, when we are at Walt Disney World.

  • Happy Birthday Goofy!

  • I remember seeing Gooffy on my very first trip to WDW.
Goofy was on skis and met the ferry as we were coming to the MK.
What a fun surprise! Goofy is the best.

    • Cool! Thanks for sharing, Cathy.

  • My best memory of Goofy is one I can easily recall every time I think of Disney. Back in 2008 I was staying at the Beach Club Resort with my mom and 9 year-old niece. It was our last day in the world so we thought what better way to say goodbye then a character breakfast at Cape May Cafe. We were almost done eating and had seen every character but Goofy so I was sitting and coloring on the tablecloth/paper with my niece. As Goofy came up I decided to just stay seated for this one and let my mom have a picture… well Goofy didn’t like that idea because when I thought we were done with pictures and assumed he was moving on I simply went back to coloring: before I knew it my hand was being pulled and soon I was standing up and Goofy was down on one knee signing the words “I love you.” So needless to say that picture of Goofy proposing is one of my favorite memories at Disney. My friend to this days says I should have said yes LOL, but all I could do was giggle back at him

  • I think my favorite Goofy memory would have to been from when I was only 7 years old and my family went to WDW for Christmas. We were just getting served at the Liberty Tree Tavern when Goofy rounded the corner and headed towards our table. I was so excited I leaned back too far in my chair and the whole thing went dumbling down with me in it right at Goofy’s feet. He just covered his eyes with his ears and shook his head once he found out I was okay.

  • Are you absolutely sure that Mickey’s Revue was released today? I was under the impression that it was May 25th.

  • When I was in Animal Kingdom at the beginning of the day, we went over to Camp Minnie-Mickey for autographs and the Festival of the Lion King. I was the first (and only for a while) in line for Goofy, and here he comes, running out. He hugs me and almost knocks me over! It was so nice to be first for one of the Fab Five!!

    • Lucky!

  • Hmm. Lot of sources peg the release of Mickey’s Revue on May 25th.

  • My family’s favorite Goofy memory is from our trip in May 2011. My oldest son was wearing a tshirt with just a face and the word Ninja on it. Goofy saw it and acted scared. Then he challenged my son to perform karate with him. It was so fun and we were all laughing. Those are some of the best pictures and memories from any of our trips!

    • That’s hilarious, Jennifer!

  • Happy Birthday Goofy! I enjoyed this post and seeing all his photos! I love Goof Candy company so much! He makes the best candy! My favorite are the gummys! And the chip and dale pretzels =)

    • Goofy Candy Co is seriously crazy! It’s impossible to pick just one treat there!

  • Participating in Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge in 2010 is my favorite Goofy memory. Running 13.1 miles on Saturday and 26.2 miles on Sunday in sleet, rain and freezing temperatures was definitely a challenge but so much fun! My twin and I love runDisney and we’re already registered for the 2013 Goofy’s Race and Half Challenge! 🙂

    • That’s a fun memory to have!
