What's the Story?
TEAM GALAXY follows the struggles and triumphs of students at Galaxy High, which trains teens (both human and alien) for missions in the far reaches of the universe. Energetic Josh (voiced by Kirby Morrow) is a top Galaxy team leader who's often called on to visit distant planets to answer communication beacons. Under the guidance of Josh's dad, Principal Kirkpatrick (Brian Dobson), the cadets balance their hectic teenage lives with the demands of training to become a Space Marshal.
Is It Any Good?
This anime-style cartoon works well for grade-schoolers because it combines exciting (and not overly violent) adventures with imaginative characters and humor. Kids will relate to some of the issues that arise among team members (as when one teammate feels excluded from the action, or another develops a superiority complex), and parents can feel comfortable that the lessons the show offers are worthwhile. Positive messages about teamwork, respecting others, conflict resolution, and taking responsibility for your actions are clear in each episode.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about teamwork. How do the team members depend on each other? What are their individual strengths? In what ways and at what times does each of them act as a leader? Kids, have you ever been part of a team? What does it mean to be a teammate? What are teammates' responsibilities to each other? Parents can also discuss getting along with peers. How do the characters relate to their classmates? Is there any competition among them? How do your kids relate to their peers? How do they resolve differences that inevitably arise?
