What is the difference between Data collector, PDA, and handheld terminal?

Many people can't tell the difference between the words data collector, pda, and handheld terminal. In fact, according to the different functions and use occasions, it is very easy to distinguish.

The data collector is also called the inventory machine. It is a terminal computer device that integrates a barcode scanning device with a data terminal and has a battery that can be operated offline. It has the functions of real-time collection, automatic storage, real-time display, real-time feedback, automatic processing, and automatic transmission.

PDAs are also known as handheld computers. They are classified by use and are divided into industrial-grade PDAs and consumer PDAs. Industrial-grade PDAs are mainly used in the industrial field. Common barcode scanners, RFID readers, POS machines, etc. can all be called PDAs; consumer PDAs include more, smart phones, tablet computers, handheld game consoles, etc.

Hand-held terminals are those with WinCE, Android and other operating systems, memory, CPU, screen and keyboard, with data transmission and processing capabilities, and their own batteries, which can be used for mobile use.

In many cases, there is not much difference between these words. They are likely to refer to a machine with the same function or application. So, for most users, how should they choose and distinguish?

Generally speaking, data collectors, inventory machines, and bar code data terminals are mostly used for bar code collection and serial number collection, mainly for bar codes. With the popularity of two-dimensional codes, data collectors and inventory machines have gradually integrated and added the functions of two-dimensional codes.

PDAs and handheld terminals often refer to Android machines or WINCE machines. These machines are often powerful and are also called smart machines. According to the different use occasions, the function is very different. Can contain one to multiple functions.

The basic functional modules are: barcode scanning module, RFID identification module, Bluetooth module, wifi module, GPRS module, magnetic stripe card module, contact smart IC identification module (such as bank card IC identification, identity IC identification, etc.), GPS module, data storage module (ROM, RAM, FLASH, SD, TSD, EMMC, TF, USB, etc. module or reading module), printing module, etc. The combination of various modules can derive a variety of smart machines to help end users, collect and count, store corresponding data, or perform data transmission and communication.
