The unfortunate beast is said to have died “from exhaustion”shortly after the alleged sex attack.
Locals said they had earlier seen the 20-year-old tie the donkey to a tree in the central Kenyan village of Mutathi-ini.
He was held in a police cell in Gichira before appearing at a court in Nyeri on Monday.
Muriithi denied a charge of performing an unnatural act with a donkey.
But he admitted to magistrate Ruth Kefa he was too afraid to chat up women, reports Jarunda.com.
Muriithi, who finished his secondary school education this year, was not represented at the hearing.
He was released on bail and is due back in court on December 13.
Cases of bestiality are said to be on the rise in Nyeri, according to hivisasa.com.
